Why mining bearings fail part 2: Many major mechanical bearing failures are caused by the wrong bearing part number being used. Be sure to check that the (OEM) Original Equipment Manufacturers latest recommended bearing part number is actually used. Many times a similar bearing part number is used which does not have the same enhanced performance characteristics of the correct part number. Examples of bearing enhancements include: Special alloy steel, Surface profiling, Surface finish, Carbo-nitriding, special cages, longer rollers, super-finishing, closer tolerances, special cage designs, etc. If you need help in this area please comment and I will be happy to assist.
